The strategy of contracting with medical providers for bundled payments is the subject for significant discussion and plan sponsor interest but, aside from CMS and travel medicine programs, bundled payments have not been widely implemented for the commercial market.
Blue Shield of California has worked in partnership with Global One Ventures since 2010 to implement a California state-wide network of surgery centers using bundled payments for surgical procedures. The principals from both organizations will discuss the program evolution, describe the structure of the bundled rates, problems that had to be overcome and data from 2015 and 2016.
