WV University Hospital
Bill MacLean oversees Health Partners Network, Inc. (HPN), a regional physician-hospital organization managed care network. He manages a staff of eleven and reports to Thomas Jones, President and CEO of WVUHS.
His responsibilities include managed care contracting, commercial third party payer relationships, provider credentialing services, property and casualty insurance, and review of group health plans of the West Virginia United Health System (WVUHS), its operating entities and the faculty practice plans of the WestVirginia University School of Medicine’s faculty practice plans in Morgantown and Charleston. Bill’s managed care responsibilities include both contracts done directly in the name of WVUHS or its operating entities and contracts done for HPN, a joint venture with private physicians and other participating hospitals that are not part of WVUHS.
The WVUHS and faculty practice plan contracts cover four hospitals and 600 physicians and include commercial, public employees, managed Medicaid, managed Medicare, and workers compensation business insured by third party insurers and health maintenance organizations. The contracts cover all services, including general physician and hospital services, behavioral services, and specialized areas such as bone marrow transplants.
Health Partners Network (HPN), is a regional physician hospital network with fourteen hospitals and over 1,000 physicians (including the 600 mentioned above) in a 22 county area of north central West Virginia, southwestern Pennsylvania, and western Maryland. HPN is designed to negotiate and administer risk contracts and to develop non risk contracts using so-called messenger model processes.
