Ellen Exum is Director, Health Benefits & Health Promotion for IBM Corporation in Armonk NY, the world’s top provider of computer products and services with over 430,000 employees in more than 100 countries. 2012 revenues were in excess of $104 billion. Her role includes overseeing and leading health and welfare benefits and health promotion design and strategy for the IBM community (active and retired and their dependents) in over 100 countries around the world.
Prior to joining IBM, Ellen was the Director, Benefits/Global Wellness of PepsiCo, where she was responsible for developing the Company’s global strategic employee health management and wellness goals and translating them into clearly defined initiatives to impact the health and lifestyle risks of 300,000 employees worldwide while at work and at home. In this position, Ellen was the recipient of National Business Group on Health’s (NBGH) Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles Platinum Award in three different years (2012, 2010 & 2009).
Ellen was formerly Director of Compensation and Benefits for Randstad (formerly Spherion Corporation), where she had oversight responsibility for health, two retirement plans, and compensation where she introduced new performance metrics and innovative sourcing strategies. In this role, Ellen was the recipient of an industry award for the online benefits communications system she introduced.
She was previously employed by Starwood Vacation Ownership Inc. as manager of benefits, and by Tupperware Corporation as a senior benefits and compensation analyst. Exum started her career as a managed care specialist for Southern New England Telephone.
Exum is a cum laude graduate of AlbertusMagnusCollege in New Haven, Connecticut, where she majored in business economics.
With over 20 years of experience gained in the trenches of HR program development and management, Exum has shared her expertise in areas such as wellness initiative, benefits communication, program benchmarking and metrics at a number of industry forums.
