Dr. Heidi Forbes Öste is a Global Social Strategist and Behavioral Scientist with 25+ years experience in strategic implementation of social technologies. Her BE-ing@Work research explores innovative interventions for shifting optimal presence (awareness and engagement) and reducing presenteeism. She recently completed her PhD dissertation study on Wearables and Presence of Mind in the Contemporary Workplace. She is currently extending it to explore innovative wellbeing practices beyond wearables for bringing out one’s best self in the contemporary workplace, in particular for the remote worker.
She has been an advocate for the use of technology to enhance human relationships and global connection since the mid-90s. She provided keynotes and capacity building workshops for women in leadership, business owners and global companies throughout EMEA and Asia from 2005-2013. Her return to academia in 2012 was directly related to the dearth of validated studies and data to explain the paradigm shift to social and relationships driven economy and the importance of self-awareness for organization success. Her academic credentials include a Masters in International Management from Boston University Brussels, Masters in Human Development and PhD in Human and Organization Systems from Fielding Graduate University.
After many years of suffering from seasonal affective disorder (SAD) living in Sweden, her love of technology provided a key to treatment. Using a fitness wearable she built self-awareness for the behavior modification needed to thrive again. Her early career (pre-tech) in sports and the hospitality industry provided additional context for the value of social and health in her wellbeing research.
