Martin Boroson is a leading advocate for the application of meditation and mindfulness to corporate leadership, strategy, innovation, and organizational development.
Born and raised in New York, Marty had a precocious first career as a pre-teen political activist. At sixteen, he became a Legislative Aide to the New York State Assembly. At seventeen, in search of deeper understanding, he “retired” from politics to study philosophy at Yale.
After earning an MBA from the Yale School of Management, he realized that the the quantitative, linear techniques of business, though useful, were quite limited. So he set out to learn other forms of wisdom, exploring depth psychology, theatre, and Zen. He worked for many years as psychotherapist, supporting people in recovery from severe childhood trauma.
With One-Moment Meditation, Marty distilled his experience into a simple, practical new form of meditation training that is ideal for busy people. His book, One-Moment Meditation: Stillness for People on the Go, has been published in thirteen languages, including Japanese and Chinese, and his short animated film, “How to Meditate in a Moment,” has been seen by over one million people on YouTube, and he has recently launched the One-Moment Meditation iOS app.
Marty has taught One-Moment Meditation in leadership seminars, hospitals, public workshops and the media, as well as in busy urban train stations, a farmyard, and a cabaret. His company, OMM Training, LLC (onemomentmeditation.com), provides training courses in One-Moment Meditation to Fortune 500 companies, including a global pharmaceutical company, a leading search engine, the Association of American Medical Colleges, Kaiser Permanente and Next-Era Energy.
As a faculty member of the Institute for Management Studies, Marty created the seminar Becoming a Next-Generation Leader. He consults to organizations on the applications of a meditative mind to leadership, decision-making, peak performance and innovation, and recently spoke at the Nueva Innovative Learning Conference.
Marty is also a playful advocate for the benefits of meditation and mindfulness in the media. He created the Stop the Stresscalation™ campaign for the Huffington Post, as well as the series, Transform Stress in 30 Days with One-Moment Meditation®, for Oprah.com. In the UK, for the Federation of Organic Milk Groups, he created the Take a Moo-ment™ promotion, heard on nineteen BBC radio stations. And in Ireland, he created the National Moment of Stillness, for which thousands of people stopped work and stopped driving to enjoy thirty seconds of total silence—live on national radio. Said the show’s host afterward, “The whole nation was enthralled.”
