Rock the Bike
Paul Freedman is an inventor, entrepreneur, and activist, and the founder of Rock The Bike (link to http://www.rockthebike.com) , a company that develops Pedal Powered activities for events and educators. Rock Tfhe Bike’s most popular activity is their Fender Blender (bike powered blender), but they have also developed Pedal Powered charging stations, and even a concert system in which up to 25 pedalers combine their efforts to power a concert for up to 2000 to enjoy. Their high-profile customers include: Jamba Juice, Kaiser Permanente, Whole Foods, the Cincinatti Reds, Cabot Creamery, Milagro Tequila, Malibu Rum, Burt’s Bees, Fuze Beverages, Stanford University, and numerous other colleges and universities.
The Fender Blender combines fitness, fun, and alternative energy in a package that literally breaks the ice at events. Organizations and companies typically use it to pull people in and crack a smile at events, then sample a product or educate people about their offering. It’s a hit at environmental holidays like Earth Day and Bike To Work Day. In the context of Health & Wellness programs, it’s a great way to educate about nutrition or promote a Bike To Work program. With a bike blender, employees can take turns blending pitcher after pitcher of cold, sweet, vitamin-rich smoothies at health days.
Rock The Bike cares deeply about building stronger and healthier communities, fighting Global Warming, and encouraging bicycle riding. But guilt trips don’t work. What works are fun activities that open peoples’ hearts so that they are willing to learn. Learning in groups is especially effective. All of our technologies are designed to be social and inclusive. You pedal, something amazing happens. You spread the word, get involved, and make change. Rock The Bike.
Like the activities he works on, Paul’s presentations are also Pedal Powered. Audience members take turns providing all the electricity needed for his message to be heard.
